How this guy booked 31 deals in 2 weeks.

If you think cold email doesn’t work then you’re wrong.

Because I helped my client Shawn sign 31 deals in two weeks from cold email alone.

Even better?

Shawn owns an agency in one of the most saturated and competitive markets:

E-commerce.

So today, I’ll show you why cold email is one of the best sources of B2B lead generation, how to fill your calendar with qualified sales calls in the next two weeks, and the secret to making your emails stand out in even the most competitive markets.

Now let me show you why the old advice that “cold email is dead” may actually be holding back your business growth.

And that starts with the old way of running cold email outreach.

The Old Way

  • Scrape a massive list of contacts.
  • Spend thousands a month on data, domains, and inboxes.
  • Believe that blasting your entire TAM at once will yield better results.

The New Way

  • Scrape data based on signals to capture demand, not generate it.
  • Enrich that data to make each email feel 1-to-1 instead of 1-to-many.
  • Keep a lean infrastructure that’s low-cost but still yields high positive reply rates.

The first step to filling your pipeline with hyper-qualified prospects is the most important. Yet it’s the one most business owners ignore, causing them to fail before they even start.

First, you must understand the 4 Levels of Market Sophistication

One of the biggest problems business owners face with cold email lead generation (that actually reverse their progress) is not understanding their market sophistication.

Yet the level of your market's sophistication determines your entire lead gen strategy.

Here they are:

Level 1: EXTREME HARD MODE

Getting pitches everyday with the same offers and claims. Offers that have been around for decades. SEO agencies + cyber security. Requires a ton of proof, novel UM, deep personalization. Requires free upfront work in the form of audits, trial.

Level 2: HARD

Understand the need for lead gen, but receive fewer offers. IT providers, Software development, Fintech, Marketing Agencies, B2B SaaS, Recruiting agencies. You need a great offer, specific outcomes, niche expertise, case studies, risk reversal, lead magnets.

Level 3: MEDIUM

Understand their problems but may not know every solution. Commercial cleaning, Home services, Manufacturers, Logistic companies, Equipment companies, Wholesalers, Commercial services. Direct ROI language, offer alone and straight to call works. Looms.

Level 4: Easy

Rarely approached with well-built outbound offers. Specialty contractors, Niche trades, Local B2B services, Traditional owner-operator companies. Straight pitch.

The more sophisticated your market is, the better your offer, proof, and mechanism need to be to get prospects to answer.

Because if your market is sophisticated, odds are they’re already getting 10–20 cold emails a day.

A great offer alone isn’t going to cut it.

Here’s how you can dominate even the most sophisticated markets (even level 1 extreme)...

1. Create a Killer Offer

Your offer should essentially follow this formula:

I will perform [action] that delivers [quantifiable result] in [amount of time] or [crazy guarantee].

It needs to be specific, measurable, and easy for the prospect to understand.

For level 1 markets you’ll need to offer some kind of free work to get your foot in the door, in my client’s case it was offering a free email broadcast.

If you’re stuck on trying to figure out a killer offer use this prompt:

Offer Generator Prompt

2. DO NOT ASK FOR A CALL

Your CTA needs to build trust.

These people don’t want to waste an hour of their day getting pitched.

Here’s what we offered instead:

  1. A free email
  2. A case study
  3. A Loom breakdown of their website

This builds trust fast and creates more positive replies.

3. USE PROOF

Whenever you make a great offer, the first objection in the prospect’s mind is this:

“Oh yeah? Prove it.”

So follow up your offer in the cold email with a proof sentence.

For example:

“We helped [brand] increase MRR by X% in X days. Mind if I share the case study?”

Simple.

You make the claim, immediately back it up, and give them an easy reason to respond.

4. DATA SOURCING

Don’t use Apollo or generic data sources for sophisticated markets.

You need to understand what tools your prospects are using.

In this case, it was Meta, Klaviyo, and Shopify. We use Apify scrapers for this.

Then you need to use waterfall enrichment to personalize that data.

This way, you know two things:

Your prospect is actually qualified.

And your emails feel 1-to-1 instead of 1-to-many.

Enrichment takes your cold email from this:

Generic:

Sarah,

We help e-commerce brands increase revenue with email marketing.

Want to hop on a call?

Enriched:

Sarah,

I saw you guys just launched the new Hydration Collection. The Watermelon Lime flavor looks killer.

I noticed you’re using Klaviyo and spotted a few places in your post-purchase flow where you could probably squeeze out another 10–15% in email revenue.

We recently helped another DTC brand increase email revenue by 22% in 60 days.

I recorded a 2-minute Loom showing the 3 changes I’d make.

Want me to send it over?

Your goal should be to build trust as fast as possible, so you need to personalize, enrich, provide proof, and offer free work for sophisticated markets.

5. PREPARE YOUR ASSETS

You need to have assets ready to handle objections when people reply.

People will ask for:

  1. Your website.
  2. Your social media profile.
  3. Client results, case studies, proof.

Most people send over long-ass, 1-to-1 case studies.

But that’s a recipe for disaster.

No one is going to pause their day to watch a 20-minute video. My client used a simple two-minute Loom to show proof, and it converted like hell.

Here’s the framework:

  1. Three client results.
  2. Name of each company.
  3. Revenue before.
  4. Revenue after.
  5. Three slides.

When you keep it simple, you keep it possible.

Remember:

The name of the game is speed to lead. If you have to spend 15 minutes creating new assets, you’re going to lose time, and the lead will slowly go cold.

6. WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE BOOKING DETERMINES HOW YOU CLOSE

Booking the call is one thing.

Getting the prospect excited about your call is what can make or break the deal.

So:

  1. Have a thank-you page set up with a video and more proof.
  2. Have a pre-call sequence with YouTube videos explaining your process.
  3. Set up retargeting ads with valuable content.

By the time they actually get on the call, they should already understand who you are, what you do, and why they should listen to you.

7. COPY

The shorter, the better. Less is more.

  • Casual lowercase letters.

SUBJECT LINES:

  • Start with a short, relevant subject; three words is a useful constraint, not a universal rule.
  • Offer.

FRAMEWORKS

  • Offer/CTA
  • Offer/proof/CTA
  • Proof/offer/CTA
  • Enrich the data to have info from the website. Make each email seem 1-to-1.
  • Spintax.

Frameworks:

Offer > Proof > CTA

Subject line: 10k users in 90 days?

[Offer] , we can get 10,000 high-intent users who don’t churn in the next 90 days, or you get a full refund.

[Proof] We took [Client] from 2 installs a day to 50–80 daily and #1 in Family Apps, all in 90 days.

[CTA] Open to a quick call to see if we can do the same for ?

FOLLOW-UP SEQUENCES

  • Reiterate the offer.
  • Fresh words.
  • Only 2 more follow-ups.

8. THE FOLLOW-UP

You need to track every positive reply and the date it came in.

A huge percentage of positive replies never get properly followed up with.

So you need to:

  1. Log the reply and contact information in your CRM.
  2. Call the prospect as soon as possible to book the call.
  3. Follow them on social media.
  4. Follow up every day for eight business days.

But do not just say:

  • “Bumping this up.”
  • “Just following up.”

Every follow-up should give them another reason to respond.

  • Reiterate the offer.
  • Show more proof.
  • Use information from their website or About page.
  • Also push toward a call.

Here are 2 examples of follow-ups we used that converted like wildfire:

Not sure if the offer’s landing, so here’s proof instead of promises.

I put together a quick walkthrough of how this works and the kind of results it’s pulled:

8. THE NEWSLETTER

You’ll have a lot of leads go cold after the follow-ups.

And that’s normal.

Sometimes it’s just not the right time for them.

So?

  • Add them to a weekly newsletter.
  • This keeps them in your environment.
  • It makes sure they don’t forget about you.

And it gives you another opportunity every single week to show proof, provide valuable content, and stay top of mind.

So there ya have it, an inside take from a veteran lead generation specialist who has seen the good, the bad, and a whole lot of ugly.

You’re welcome!

Last week I introduced my Brazilian girlfriend to the American cultural icon we all know and love: Bob Ross. Then, a quote from Bob popped up that nearly made me shed a tear, look out the window at stars, and radiate gratitude like Chernobyl: “Happy little accidents.” When you think about it, humanity is covered in these happy little accidents. Heck, penicillin, one of the greatest discoveries of the 20th century, which has helped save millions of lives, was a happy little accident. But...

I’ve written copy for 100s of different offers, 100s of different markets, and dozens of different types of services. From long-form VSLs to tweets, I’ve seen what converts like a lemonade stand on the 4th of July… And what burns down like a blimp getting smacked by a solar flare. So let me tell ya… Despite cold email copy being some of the shortest copy you can write (besides good ol’ tweets), it is one of the hardest forms to get down. Think about it. You’ve only got about 80 characters to...

Do you follow up with your leads? If not, you could be missing out on some serious deals. Heck, just the thought of following up with someone gave me the ick. I thought following up with leads would turn me into some kind of werewolf salesman… But I couldn’t have been more wrong! Here’s the skinny… If you’re like me, the idea of following up with a stranger tingles a deep subconscious fear. The fear of being annoying. Or worse! The fear of being rejected. But after analyzing our KPIs, we...
