I love all forms of language. But my sister shrieking in a high pitched tone that could crack glass? ...Is my favorite. I'll get to that in a minute. But first, If I wanted to make $20,000 dollars in a day. Here's what I'd do... I'd try out for Family Feud. Cause years ago my family tried out for the TV show "Family Feud" in NYC... If you're not familiar with Family Feud... ...I'll explain... 5 family members battle it out against another family of 5 to answer questions. The family with the most points? Wins a cool $20,000. And then goes on to battle other families. Pretty cool right? Not for my family. The try outs were a nightmare. We waited for hours in a cramped hot room. One by one each family tried out. But the packed room and waiting wasn't the nightmare... No no. Here's where things got bizarre (horror movie style). One of the quiz questions asked was: "Name something people pretend is real, but isn't" This question sent my 7 year old sister into a full blown kamikaze rampage. Why? The 1st answer to the question: Santa clause. My sister turns red.... The 2nd answer? Leprechauns. Now my sister looks like an evil child in a horror movie. Hair floating around like tentacles. But this last question sent my sister running down a NYC stairway straight for the exit. The tooth fairy. High-pitched, glass-cracking screams of "HOW COULD YOU LIE TO ME?" met this answer." My sister ran off. Followed by my Mom and cousin. Enter the bizarre part of the story. Now it was my family's turn to try out. And the result? HINT: We only had 3/5 members. So we didn't make the cut. That part is obvious. What's not obvious? Is the point of this story. The real reason why sister's reaction was so explosive: Her beliefs were challenged. Funny thing is, challenging beliefs works on adults too. And that's why you challenge commonly held beliefs or the status quo. That's what makes people react. That's what makes people think "I've had enough of this BS. It's time to make a change." And then buy your stuff. How do you tell stories that challenge beliefs and make people buy your stuff?
